SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

PENRITH – THURSDAY, 6 AUGUST 2026

Race 3 – MAJOR OAK THEATRE RESTAURANT @ CLUB PACEWAY AUG 15 PACE – 2125 metres

MELFIELD SORYT – Stewards questioned driver J Daskalovski in relation to the driving tactics adopted during the event in particular her decision to improve three wide leaving the 1400 metres and remaining wide for the remainder of the event. Ms Daskalovski explained she was given no firm instructions from trainer S Grima however explained that during the early stages of the event MELFIELD SORYT was travelling well and on the bit and approaching the 1400 metres Ms Daskalovski shifted into a three wide position and elected to try and improve to the position outside of the leader. Ms Daskalovski stated that when she shifted three wide, MELFIELD SORYT initially moved quite well, however once improving approximately one length passing the 1300 metres MELFIELD SORYT failed to travel and as a result she was unable to muster the required speed to progress forward towards the outside of OURTREACHEROUS REIGN NZ. Ms Daskalovski further explained that rounding the turn between the 1200 and 1000 metres the mare again failed to travel as expected and passing the 900 metres it became apparent that MELFIELD SORYT was not going to be able to obtain the position outside of the leader. Ms Daskalovski added that considering the distance remaining in the event she allowed her mare to stride on its own terms in a three wide position as she did not feel it would be in the best interests of the mare to restrain and go to the tail of the field. Ms Daskalovski further added that she had not given any real thought to improving prior to the 1400 metres on the back of OURTREACHEROUS REIGN NZ as she was satisfied with the way in which her mare was travelling up until the 1400 metres when she elected to improve. Stewards determined in all of the circumstances that Ms Daskalovski had erred when not looking to improve passing the 1700 metres and follow OURTREACHEROUS REIGN NZ forward in the event which would have been beneficial to her drive as she would have been able to place pressure on OURTREACHEROUS REIGN NZ earlier in the event and as a result the leader NOTHINGBUTWAVES would have been unable obtain respite during that stage.  Stewards were further of the view that if Ms Daskalovski had of improved and been able to obtain the position outside of the leader prior to the 1500 metres that she would have been able to afford her drive some respite in the position outside of the leader before being placed under pressure. In all of the circumstances, Stewards did not find that Ms Daskalovski’s drive was culpable to the degree required to take direct action against her licence however did advise Ms Daskalovski that going forward she must show greater judgement and assess a race in its totality.
