SOFT LANDING – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted during the early and middle stages driver C McElhinney explained that it had been her pre-race intention to go forward after the start and take the position outside the lead. She said that she drove with vigour in the early stages albeit from a position wide on the track and attempted to cross runners to her inside. She said that entering the back straight she was still in a three wide position attempting to cross THE NINJA, however that runner was urged forward inside her and she was unable to muster sufficient speed to cross. She added that she then attempted to ease to race behind THE NINJA, however when she did this the driver of THE NINJA also eased which precluded her from obtaining cover in the running line and was then obliged to restrain to the rear of the field. She stated that when placed under pressure inside the 400m her drive was unable to respond strongly, due in her opinion to the circumstances in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

LACHIES IDEAL – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted in the early and middle stages driver T Brown explained that he experienced difficulty controlling the gelding during the score up and after the start it raced fiercely. He said that he initially intended to obtain cover behind RANDOM MAHONEY, but his drive was too strong and after shifting to its outside he was once again unable to take cover behind LEAVE IT TO LUCY because he could not properly restrain it. He stated that due to this and the gelding history of racing successfully in a forward position he allowed it to stride freely, however did not intend to challenge JACKS FYRE for the lead. He further stated that when he attempted to ease outside that runner his drive continued to over race and he was unable to properly restrain, which resulted in it weakening inside the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Connections were advised that a warning for performance and intractability would be placed on the gelding’s racing record.
